Went on a great weekend ride this weekend, until at one stage when I pressed the starter button, all I heard was the starter running "free". Pressed again, same thing! Eventually it engaged the flywheel and started. This then continued to be the case on average every one out of three starts...

Eventually figured it out, noise originates from the chain/roller combination. Removed the roller, and whala, noise gone. Roller itself still seems to be in good nic ( bearings ok) except for a few groves embedded in the roller. My chain is ISM and on the slack side, so I figure the noise is...

Was not very successful in finding a suitable pad at any of the bike shops, but fortunately the salesman at BMW came to the party and gave me the genuine part at a very good price. Done and dusted, new pads in and working like a bomb!

Can anyone suggest a good "aftermarket" brand replacement? Anyone had any experience with GOLD Fren pads? Where/who in Port Elizabeth stocks replacement parts?

Here's the strange thing...... I just realised that while applying the front brakes, that noise is not coming from the calipre, but from the engine somewhere!! I free-wheeled down a hill, engine off, and simply transfered my weight above the handle bars, and noise was present, without applying...

My Dakar has recently started making a 'clattering" noise when applying the front bakes. brake pads are still good, fluid also ok. Any ideas where I should start looking?
