Carbolex® is a high performance fabric made of an especially strong Polyester fiber. This fiber has been designed to perform at the highest levels of resistance to abrasion, puncture, ripping, tearing and pilling. Products made of Carbolex® materials are easy to care for and are long-lasting. Fieldsheer uses its Carbolex® Materials on various lines of Jackets, Pants and Luggage.

Fieldsheer uses many different forms of Carbolex® material. The difference in the materials is best described by their Denier, or weight of the weave. The heavier the weave, the higher the Denier and vice versa. Fieldsheer utilizes a range of Denier, from 300 to 1200 for different applications in our product lines.

Fieldsheer's Carboflex® Material

Carboflex® has been developed especially for protective sports apparel where comfort, safety and flexibility is a must. Carboflex® is a unique high performance material that is ultra-breathable and extremely flexible. Up to 90% the strength of leather, Carboflex® offers superior abrasion resistance compared to traditional textile fabrics.

Fabric Testing

This past year we re-tested our existing fabrics along with our new developments in order to reassure our consumers of the effectiveness and proactive ability of our materials.

We submitted fabric swatches of current materials to the largest 3rd party testing facility in Asia, SGS Hong Kong. Under the ASTM D 3886-1999 abrasion testing method, a fabric swatch is placed on inflated diaphragm and above it is a panel with abrasive material which is in constant contact with the fabric swatch. The testing apparatus records the number of cycles/revolutions till the abrasive panel breaks through the fabric.

Our comparison test yielded some surprising yet satisfying results. The test that we chose reflected to us the strength of the fabric when subjected to sliding with the garment on a tarmac surface.

We also don’t believe that fabric testing in itself is enough; CE armor, seam construction and other materials of which the garment is constructed make a difference. In addition, Fieldsheer does its own internal tests to try to continually improve all aspects of protection for its garments and with 30 years experience in producing motorcycle garments we believe we do have an edge over our competitors.

Fieldsheer Rainguard® Technology

Fieldsheer Rainguard® is an exclusive product of Fieldsheer Inc. Rainguard® is a waterproof and breathable membrane that allows perspiration to escape, while preventing water from penetrating. It is light weight, durable and comfortable.

This highly advanced membrane utilizes a polyurethane coating. Rainguard® can be combined with leather, Carbolex®, or any other material to provide a waterproof and breathable interior. The way Rainguard® works is quite simple. The pores are 650 times larger than water vapor, so evaporated water can easily escape. On the other hand, the pores are 15,000 times smaller than a small drop of water, so rain and snow can’t possibly penetrate.

Rainguard® has been designed and tested to be: 100% waterproof, breathable, resistant to cold, flexible, dexterous and pleasing to the touch.

Fieldsheer Phoslite® Technology

Fieldsheer Phoslite® reflective technology is use for enhanced visibility at night or during tow visibility conditions. Phoslite® is composed of millions of tiny "retroeflective" lenses bonded to a variety of fabric backings. These lenses will reflect light straight back to the lighting source, providing reflective warnings to the light source.
Retroreflective material is an industrial fabric composed of wide angle, exposed retroreflective lenses bonded with a special polymer layer to a durable 100% polyester cloth backing.

Retroreflective Testing & Performance

Retroreflective testing: The coefficient of retroreflection (Ra,in cd/lux/m2) is measured by methods traceable to either of the following retroreflective intensity testing procedures:

ASTM E809 AND E810(RA)CIE 54:1982(R')"

Retroreflective material used in high-visibility safety apparel are to meet or exceed the minimum(Class1 / Level1)requirements for the following standards: EN 471 European standard which specifies the requirements of protective clothing aiming to signal the presence of the wearer visually in daylight as well as under illumination by headlights of cars.

ANSI / ISEA 107-1999 U.S. standard for high-visibility safety apparel. Adopted in 1999 based on the European EN 471 requirements.

The Fieldsheer Phoslite Retroreflective Technical Service Report was provided by SATRA. The test found to meet with the requirements of EN471:1994 Clause 6 for both class1 and 2 materials when tested as received and after the pretreatments.
