BMW 1200 GS or Triumph Tiger 800?

I need some objective advice on behalf of a friend of mine who asked me, and I can't give him a straight answer due to lack of knowledge.
He wants to buy a bike for him and his wife to go on trips(long distance and some gravel roads.
The 2 bikes he is looking at:

BMW 1200 GS                                                              Triumph Tiger 800
2006 model                                                                  2011 model
R75000                                                                        R55000
43000km                                                          or        Spotlights
BMW top box
Brackets / frame for panniers (no panniers)
Crashbars

Both bikes are at the same dealer with full service history.
He is about 100kg and his wife about 80kg.

Any advise on the options AS IS. And some advise if there were NO extras on any of the bikes. Obviously he wants best "value for money".
