I recently had my radiator repaired after I experienced the 'trapped stone' issue that's well known to everyone other than a certain Gauteng workshop.

Thanks to BMW Bloemfontein for finding the fault in 5 mins.

So now I'm busy checking that the whole cooling system works properly.

I've bled the system and refilled it with the right amount of BMW coolant. I've been on a couple of short rides and there's no leakage.

I've had the fan checked and it works.

But now I have my doubts about the water temperature sensor because the fan has yet to come on. Not once during the rides (admittedly, gentle test rides) but also not after leaving the bike to idle in the hot sun for 15 minutes.

If I unplug the water temperature sensor, the fan kicks in instantly - and then goes off the moment I plug it back in.
I do have a multi-meter but am an absolute novice at sparky stuff.

Any suggestions for how I can test that the water temperature sensor is working?

I'm worried about doing an extended idle-in-the-sun test, because if it's not working, the temperature warning light won't come on (?) and I could cook the engine.
