Dakar , there is mud in handlebar fittings

I dropped my DAKAR in a moerse puddle of water (mud) over the w/end near Franklendale at the Cape quad track. First time there and had one hell of a good time!
Unfortunately my left handlebar were under water for some time, and mud water penetrated the horn, indicators and bright switch.
I will need to open fittings to clean it, Question - can I do it myself and how should this be done, and with what?
