Dont hang me Im imortal :)
Mm mm ... I prefer dealing with someone who writes in, in CAPITALS nogal to tell me his software routed him into a road now blocked by a fence :) . This matter is more difficult to deal with because no one likes having their decisions turn sour on them. It happens quite often with 'grey imports'. Essentially the person failed to read the CD cover which states in bold red "This product is licensed for use with a single Garmin GPS unit only" so quite naturally his old Topo V1 will not work with a different GPS, no matter where it was sourced.

Now he may have bought the Topo software locally and legitimately but one must wonder whether he actually paid Import Duty and Taxes on bringing the overseas-purchased unit in? It is not only unfair, as you put it, that people seem blindly to do this sort of thing and undermine our own local (and Garmin authorised) dealers - certainly not vendors in the sarcastic mannerism of the writer - who have built a superb reputation over a number of years, but they also miss this important point - a locally purchased GPS has been legally imported (freight, duties and taxes) and comes bundled with mapping software (in this case SA City Select V5 which can be unlocked to 2 GPS's). If one adds up just that total value alone, it makes no sense whatsoever to purchase 'overseas'. Add to this the fact that a GPS purchased locally is supported and warranted locally (and, boy can I attest to that, having had two of my own units summarily exchanged even within 10 days of the first year's warranty expiring, with no questions asked!) while very naturally 'grey imports' that need repair will have to be returned at owners expense to the original selling dealer and costs of repairs paid for up front (now in USD or worse still £ or ?). OK - enough on the GPS-side, I think.

As to the Garmap products - SA Streetmaps V3 and SA Recreation & Topographic - these can be unlocked to a single GPS only. There is around 635Mb of seriously useful map data in these two mapsets and besides, once you are an owner you may receive new releases at a discounted price (and they come out regularly, thanks to all the contributions we do receive and a very hard-working team of Map Specialists using state-of-the-art hardware and GIS software).

I know this reply is probably not going to satisfy the 'forum-person' but it is also not easy to have to tell someone they made a mistake, not so?
