Weekend in Golden Gate (16 - 18 December 2016)

We planned a short ride to make use of the long weekend of 16 - 18 Dec 2016 before the Christmas rush and time with family pulled us all in different directions. Four of us would go down to camp at Golden Gate then on the Saturday we would ride into Lesotho and follow dirt roads to Buta-Buta before refueling and heading back to SA to tackle Old Mills Drift Pass on our way back to camp site. Original plan was to have a support vehicle carry all our gear down so we could play on the way there and follow dirt roads but last minute engine issues meant our planned backup vehicle was not available. We would use mine which is a SWB so repacking for small space and it meant I would trailer down to Golden Gate and then ride the next day (purists please calm down, it was necessity to trailer so we could have the support car there ;-). Early morning start at Halfdaft's place, WR400 and R1200GSA loaded on trailer and riding would be Halfdaft on XR650R and Climbing turtle on his R1200GSA. Breakfast at Motorcycle Museum in Deneysville and from there mostly off-road down to Golden Gate. We arrived just after lunch, setup camp and relaxed. Dean took the 400 for a quick scout of the hills while rest of us relaxed. Dinner was good old fashioned braai with good company and conversation before early night with the most crazy wind storm blowing all night.
