XRL 650 - Rear Suspension Adjustment??

I'd like to soften up an XR650L rear shock.
I've already clickety clicked the reservoir a couple clicks back
And also that little plastic adjuster near the shock link
...........How the HELL to adjust the "ring" on top of the rear shock?? I've managed to loosen the lock ring, but the adjuster........????
