Shipping/Freight to Cairo
« on: September 09, 2013, 11:42:50 am »
Hi Guys
I am planning on sending my bike to Cairo and then ride it down to Cape Town next year. Apparently it is better to send it by plane rather than by boat? Does anybody have any information regarding shipping agents and this whole process I would really appreciate some advice.
Thanks

I think plane is better.
Friends did the trip last year and their bikes were stuck in customs for three weeks.

Been through this process twice now and it does not get any cheaper or easier. First off, if you cannot fill a container with bikes, fly it in to Cairo, it is much easier and safer.
Do not expect to see your bike on the road before a week, now days probably 2 weeks if you are lucky. As much as the "shipping agent" will help you to clear the bike and licence it, you have to be present in person through the entire process. This is the most frustrating part of the tour - take a good story book and a lot of patience along. Also expect to pay a substantial amount of "buckshees" to move the process forward. Nothing happens in Egypt without money changing hands!

PM me for details of Cairo based shipping agent.
