Cederberg Oasis Spit braai:
« on: November 11, 2013, 07:02:38 am »
Its much easier to put all the thanks , pics and photos on the ride reports page,Itss where everyone is looking to see what the outcome was.

Many Thx Chantal and Gerrit
Awesome spit braai once again , The perfect Hosts,
Well done !

It was good to meet up with old acquaintances and meet new ones too,
The weather was great and so too were the roads into the Cederberg , as usual

Many riders that came in , went via the Padstal on the R355 and just as many went over Katbakkies on the way home.
There were so many DS Bikes on the road this weekend , many of them coming up Katbakkies as we were going over to Padstal.
Padstal , as always was such a pleasure to stop at , say hi , and have a bite to eat,

N[]vA coming up Piekanese kloof , enjoying the pass so much , he didnt see me waiting for him

N[]vA making an Entry to Oasis

N[]vA and I took a chilled slow ride ride to a Padstal on the R355, the weather was so good and the skies so clear.I cant remember ever riding out of the Cederberg at such a slow relaxed pace , just breathing in all the Beauty that Cederberg had to offer

On our way back from the Oasis in the Cederberg Sunday , we found this scene,
We couldnt find the driver though ,
A Fortuner pulled up and told us they had picked up the driver and taken him to the houses  , 2km away, other than shaken up , he seemed fine.

Thanks to Chantal and Geritt it was a really great weekend. Hopefully we can do many more.
The hospitality and food was top class.
A few photographs to entice people to the fine Oasis in the Cederberg where the walking remains one of the best activities in the Western Cape

Special thanks to Fenderbender who saved the day for my mate from Aus- ruined tube on day 1 of 4 day trip through Cedarberg and West Coast. Fenderbender kindly gave us his spare tube after I waltzed into Oasis and would not even accept a drink of thanks in return! Dankie boet- seker maar nie dors gewees nie   :thumleft:

Thanks also to Piston Pete and Jan for kindly offering their tubes. Great being part of the Wilddog Tribe!

A frown too deep for Botox to salvage goes to Cape Bike Rental for renting a GS 800 with wheel bearings so screwed that we had to resort to extreme force and a 5 pound hammer to remove the axle in replacing the tube. Maintenance seemed a tad lacking.

Continued on our merry way to Wuppertal Clanwilliam and Citrusdal the next morning and enjoyed bumping into a host of Wilddogs involved with the spit- a good time was had by all. Also came across a fellow from Denmark on a rental GSA who is on a month tour of SA- great guy with many interesting trips under the belt and lots of stories to tell- keep an eye out.

Surely if I was obsessed with motorcycles I’d have more than one; no two; no three; no no, four… ah, never mind…

N[]va, your tent and sleeping bag are peacefully awaiting collection, and I have planned a training schedule so that I can pick up that bike of yours!  :pot: :pot: Deal's a deal...  :pot:

See y'all at the next one!  :thumleft:

.. I also have to give a heads-up and many thanx to FenderBender - a man with Wilddog spirit at its best - we will pay it forward one day!!!! - Thanx for the tube and then vermintly refusing payment....

High jack on...Aprillian and I crashed the Oasis party somewhat in need as we were taking 3 Auses friends for a ride via Cederberg, past Oasis and then overnighting at a friend's place at Matjiesrivier.  It just so happens that on the way there the one bloke on a rental F800GS had a back flat - by the time we realised and checked the tyre pressure, it was sitting at 0.7 bar and losing air. We pumped it up to 2.2 bar, it appeared to hold pressure. Soapy water revealed a small leak in the tread area.  This had me somewhat befuddled as this is a tubed tyre - so no plug solution.  On further investigation we realised a remarkably dangerous situation....The valve had been ripped from the tube and the tube was severly ripped.  The inside of the tyre had some sort of slime in it, and lots of crumbly rubber bits from the mangled tube.  The rim also did not have any spoke head tape/liner.  It appears that the previous guy that rented the bike must have had a flat and got away with filling it with sludge...not telling the rental provider. What was remarkable is that the spoke heads to the rim and the ripped valve was sealed enough for the tyre to hold pressure...like an unintentional tubeless conversion.  Riding two-up, comming from CT over Bainskloof, via Tankwa Padstal - what can I say?  p.s the axel was so rusted, we surely killed the wheelbearings to get it out....they will not be the same after the tyre change....looks like the bike saw some water crossings previously...heads up - check the tyres always.  HI-JACK OFFFF..
