Honda Tech dayâ?¦

What!?? Honda Tech day?

Yes people â?? here it isâ?¦ The rarely seen Honda tech day. It does not happen often as Hondaâ??s donâ??t break. Itâ??s not Kawasakiâ??s you knowâ?¦ ;)

This particular day was more of a maintenance and wash day, but a Honda tech day non the less.

My (soon to be) brother in law moved to George from the dreaded Gauteng (good move). He had to bring his bike â?? an awesome CR250 two smoke â?? in the back of a double cab bakkie, so he had to take it apart. While it was apart he decided to change the run-in piston and take care of the other little jobs that never gets done. Having a mechanical minded person on premises also meant that all our little jobs got done. It's almost like having your very own live-in Groenie. ;D

This is what the bike looked like to start off with...

As you can see we made a day of it

P1130004.jpg

Potjie, beer and spanners. This is all new to me...

After a while it started raining so we moved into the garage. Yes! Now â??workâ? has happened in my garage too. ;D

The whole family was in on it. Even Wingman came over to help.

Eventually everything was done and today we decided to take the bikes out. Sweeper and Wingman joined us for the day. As it happens all the bikes present were Honda's. I would like to clearly state that this was not a single brand ride. It's not my fault Heyleyscomet did not pitch... ;) (just kidding HC ;D )

We headed to the farm and at first just went up and down the road jumping over the little speed bump. We love this ramp!
(Sorry for the out-of-focus shots. The idiot with the camera (me) did not realize the auto focus was on the grass in the foreground. :-\)

Unfortunately the CR hardly noticed the â??little bumpâ? in the road.

(this bike is sooooooo not in our class)

My turn on the CR (BIG GRIN) ;D ;D ;D

This bike is insane. With my weight the new Maxis tyre really bit into the ground (Geikie mostly spun) and the bike would just climb into the air every time I hit the power band. Having a really loose rear and an airborne front is not really conducive to accurate steering...

Sweeper battled to catch me coming over the â??rampâ?.

P1200159.jpg

This meant that I had to go again, and again! The riding style of my IT days came rushing back and soon popping power wheelies and racing up and down was the order of the day ;D

When you start to get â??makâ? on one of these it's time to give it back...

We decided to head toward the Witels river. Remember the ride LGF, Wingman and I did? This is what it looked like:

By now the water was lower and some 4x4's made the exit much easier.

P1200175.jpg

On our ride we took 45 minutes to get 3 bikes over (although we did rest a lot and had some beer ;D)

P1050014.jpg

The road was easier this time round and the CR is much better equipped for the job, but I still was pissed off that he did it in less than 20 seconds. :p

If you're a hooligan â?? this is your bike!

He came racing back (this bike CANNOT ride slowly)...

P1200186.jpg

...hit the wrong line and made me feel MUCh better ;D

Geikie really is the â??funnestâ? guy you can ride with! When you ride with me laughter, pointing and pics when you fall is par for the course. Not everybody likes it but hey - if you don't like it don't fall. >:D Geikie was laughing louder than us even before he hit the ground! Now THAT's the spirit.

The beast:

Back to the ride.

Riding a CR and having an â??easierâ? course than we had is not fair. We went up a steep bank (well I didn't but still ;) ) so the CR has to two.

Geikie checking out the required route:

This was a fall waiting to happen ;D I had my camera ready! ;D ;D ;D

WTF!? :eek: ::)

LGF did you see that?

He raced up that road power sliding out of sight and came back racing over the river.

According to Sweeper I've been usurped as the water crossing king. :-\

BS. I do not believe my eyes. Do the uphill again.

What you have to understand is that this uphill is basically vertical. It's no joke. I really wished that Heyleyscomet was here. It would have been great to see how his superior skill and machine did this! (OK, that was nasty â?? I take it back ;))

This is amazing â?? Geikie, do it AGAIN!

â??OK, but this is the last time. I'm drawing the line before I see my arseâ?

Next up was a bank of really soft river sand:

What could be easier?

This was followed by some general riding around the farm.

A great day was had by one and all! Wholesome family fun ;D

In 3 weeks time we'll do Moordkuyl again. Keep an eye on the planning a ride section. Who's up for it? ;D
