Sorry to say but I received news tonight that the official legal protest ride has been cancelled, there is a move to do a NON-BAT ride anyway, not sure of the implications or consequences.

Will post more detail as soon as I get it.

seems as though we are all supposed to seen to be on our best behaviour for the influx of international guests for the Mandela services etc.  Security police shut down the event.

It will just be run at a later date.

If you do want to carry on & do something, understand that it is not BAT sanctioned this time around.

Will start a new thread for the next sanctioned ride.

thanks Douglas, it seems obvious why they would shut this down, maximum effect. what are the consequences? does anyone think that the damage done to SA on an international scale might outweigh the damage to pockets? we a peaceful fun loving bunch!!! think the cops may go bezerk and throw the lot of us in a pit somewhere?

From what James is saying , it is not SAPS or Metro, they are generally on our side with this, but the security guys who seem to have somewhat less accountability for their actions.  BAT don't want a biker taken out in any way so would rather fight another day.

thanks douglas, just read the FB messages. ok i agree then, on the upside we can revive this after all the excitement dies down with greater support and numbers... on the other hand it is maximum exposure but I'm not so sure i want to put myself in a potential global news covered event. oooorrrrr... five minutes of fame ???  ???

If anyone is interested in one of these stickers for covering their numberplates on the day (or forever), please send me a PM.

I am helping a mate to get orders (His name is Riaan), he started the Facebook Group below.

https://www.facebook.com/groups/no.etoll.gp/

250mm x 160mm.

They are selling for R30.00. This is really not expensive at all, and it's for a worthy cause.
For the first time in my bike's history, I am going to be affixing my number plate to my bike, but I will stick this decal on the reverse side of my plate, so as to allow for easy 'flipping" it around if / when faced with an unavoidable roadblock.

Who is with me?

SPAAAAAAARRRRTTTTTAAAAAAAAA!!!!!

Cool, did you stick yours over the actual number plate or on the reverse?
Are Riaan's stickers the exact size of the real dimensions of the legal plate?

I wouldnt know as Ive never had a numberplate on my bike.

I got mine last week :D

Im not stocking them, I'm just taking orders by PM, and then when I get a reasonable amount, I will place the order with Riaan, and we can hand them to you guys at the next eToll protest.

Cool with everyone?

How does the flipping of a numberplate work? Mine is the metal pressed one with pop rivets...cant stick anything on the back and just "flip it"...are u talking about the -now- illegal perspex numberplates? (in gauteng at least)

Hi Laurika

I've never fixed my numberplate since I got it.
I also have the Tin Plated type.

You can buy the plastic license plate holder from Builders for about R30-R40.
Some dealerships give them out for free.

Once you stick the decal over the reverse side of your legal sized plate, you can then just slide it out and in again.

It's easy to remove your pop rivets with a small drill bit.
Screw the legality of pop rivets vs Perspex plates etc.

The revolution will not be televised!

LOL

ja, i was forced to fit mine as i was crossing borders with it....so now i am stuck with it...i saw the roadbikers have a little lever attached to the plate..the just flip that and the numberplate turns to a horisontal angle...quite a thing.
