690 R (2014) gets ABS and ride by wire throttle

as per Visor Down magazine:



KTM'S 690 Enduro R gets upgrades including ABS for 2014.

The biggest model in KTM's enduro range gets a Bosch ABS unit which can be switched off for off-road use.

There's also an optional off-road ABS mode, allowing a 'freely lockable rear wheel with a sharp ABS function up front' but it requires plugging in an additional KTM dongle, with the price to be announced.

A similar dongle for the KTM 1190 Adventure costs £73.

The Enduro R's Bosch ABS unit is the size of a tennis ball and weighs 0.7kg.

The Enduro R also gets a cable-free ride-by-wire system for opening the throttle valve and twin spark-plug ignition, which KTM says gives 'better controlled power, lower fuel consumption, and less emissions'.

Had a look at one yesterday at the local dealer. Sooooooooooooooo pretty!!!! :)
Love the new colour scheme - look very much like a 6 Days KTM.

They've also changed the way the shocks can be adjusted. Didn't get too much into it but yeah - looks very cool.

One thing I did notice that I'm not liking - standard tyres are some kinda Metzler tyre. Very road based looking tyre.
Not loving that.

WHY oh why don't KTM themselves make a proper 690 Adventure so we don't have to bugger around with all these home made backyard conversion kits that are on offer - some of the stuff is good but most of the stuff is badly finished, ill fitting and not available again if you need to replace it

Kinda sad that Euro spec waters down a good thing. Soon it will have tyre pressure sensors and a heated seat.

Just got my 2014 690. It rocks, one problem though already - the Akrapovic pipe doesn't fit.  I guess we will see what other small changes KTM have made that will cause problems with aftermarket bling.
The bike is much smoother than my previous 2010 690 though. Let the Adventurising begin!!
