Goodluck Neil. I am sure you will be able to make this work. I cant help financially since I cant even cope with my own expenses at the moment nevermind a bike for myself. But if you need anything let us know. I will always try and help. Even if helping is just knowing someone that might be able to help

Yeah  ...never mind that I remixed everything very extensively too.  :sad5:

I hate youtube sooo much!  :bluduh:

I'll see what I can do about re-rendering the thing without any frigging music ::)

Meanwhile I did my 4th gym session today. I can do my 30 pushups without killing myself already, buts im still pretty unfit. Taking it gentle with the old gammy leg. The rowing machine killed me in 10 minutes flat, that's 3 minutes more than yesterday! Every little step is one step closer...

Good going Neil ...

What mechanical / electrical skills would you say are required to be reasonably self sufficient?

You're making me feel guilty - I've been to gym maybe 5 times this year - also recovering from a gammy leg. But because of a suspected ACL break I'm not doing any impact training - which doesn't leave much - so it's quite boring. Those orbitrak/rowing/stepping type machines give a good cardio work-out without impacting knees.

You gotta ride more, at least then you're having fun while exercising. But, of course, the risk of injury is greater - can't win!!!  :(

If you cant wait try Proxfree.com, It routes the video through another country. Add the video URL to the search bar on the site and select country (US works)

So its not long to await the big announcement for the 2015 route.

The big news appears to already be out. It looks like the ASo planned 6 stages in Peru, but the Pervian governement does not want to pay the $12 million to ASO for those 6 stages, and have announced that they will not be hosting.

People here are furious. A lot of criticism of the government etc. going on right now. Maybe, just maybe someone will have a change of heart in the next week or so... Holding thumbs.

Six stages of the Dakar in the country that you live, now that would be cool.

Neil,  :hello2: :hello2: :thumleft:! You have my support, bud..

Thanks Milla, you have been a big encouragement to me. BTW are you doing the Amageza this year?

Unfortunately not :'(. Like the Dakar has been on your to do list for a few years already, the Roof has been on mine. So first things first, I am going to attempt silver at the Roof this year. Already sold my 690 and purchased a KTM 450 xc-w. Yeah yeah, I know, silver at Roof with a 450 will never work some might say, but I love 450's and that's just how it's going to be.
So I definately want to do that Rallye thing from next year..
All the best with your prepping work, bud. :thumleft:

Pom17 as a matter of fact I may need some help, yes. It depends on how I am setup on the support side. I have three options:

1) I go Malle Moto class and do everything myself, living out of a box. In theory this sounds awesome but 20% of guys in this class finish and less than 10% of first timers in this class finish. Hopefully I can find enough money not to be forced into this.

2) I go with another team, who provide the tent, and 2-3 backup vehicles, and a mechanic between every 2-3 bikes. I spoke to a guy this week who recommended the x raid team (http://www.x-raid.de/miete---kaufen.html). This option costed 12,000 Euro for this year.... Eish. Its pretty cheap actually, you will see why..

3) I setup my own team. I would need at a minimum one vehicle, a van to put all my crap in and for the Mechanic and driver. Entry fee for the Vehicle: 4,500 Euros. Entry fees for the Mechanic: 6,500 Euros. The mechanic cannot work all night and drive 800km/day, so I need a driver, 6,500 Euros. Then there are two more flights, hotels for 8 days at the start and finish, food during that time and fuel. The van has to be of a certain safety spec as well so the conversion cost for seats etc is also not included. Anyway I don't have such a van...  Most teams have two vehicles or more, one as a sweeper or to help at certain points on the liaison. and one to get to the bivouac ahead of the riders on most days.

Damn...choices, choices. I have a few friends in the business so I will be talking to them as well, but I am going to contact Brett Cummings, Riaan and Darryl and see if there are any opportunities there.
