KUKOME ISLAND 3 weeks ago...........

ScalkL do you have more photos of Kukome Island ? A group of us are going there in May 2019, but I can't find any decent photos of the island to show the others. If you have, please post a few more, if possible. We're going in 4x4's unfortunately.
Thanks a stack
Here is a link to my google album: https://photos.app.goo.gl/Kox4C8VT2TqF7UA67
A sort of order to the photo's are:
1. Last town before border post
2. Pontdrift borderpost
3. Dry riverbed and Solomons wall right in it
4. All the pan photos are from Kukome island
5. Sleepover on our way back

NB!!!
DONT let anybody go alone to ride the pan. 2 of us got lost for 2 hours with a gps.
Safe side is not to not ever go further than 30m from the edge of the pan.
If you ride on the pan stay at least 100m behind the vehicle in front of you if he gets stuck ALWAYS keep one vehicle NOT on the pan. You can not walk to look for help!
The "darker" appearance on the pan is dangerous
The "fluffy" dry crumble areas are safer
Keep momentum Keep momentum Keep momentum
Work out how much water you need and take 3x that
You now pay to camp there with basically no facilities

Thanks a lot SchalkL - much appreciated, anticipation is building for May !

Awesome! Didnt you stay at Kukonje Island rather than kokome?

And remember that the pans are very corrosive.

They are great fun to ride on but if you get properly stuck you can be there for hours. Friends of mine got a GSA AC stuck for almost 5 hours in the mud.

Out of interest how did you get lost without being able to use your track back function on your gps or being able to follow your tracks?

These pictures are of the last time I used a tent. I did not pitch it. Too much effort after a long, hard day of riding. Here I just spread the tent out on the ground and slept on top of it. Was dark already. Only the next morning I noticed the zillions of spiders who also had made their homes amongst the leaves on the ground. We made good bedfellows. The next time I took a hammock with. Much easier to ‘erect’ and more comfortable.

Didn't all the /6's have a single front disc?
The R75/6 did because a mate has one.
My R80/7 had twin front discs.

The 60/6 came out with drum brakes. Maybe some people fitted a disk later on. But they left the factory with drums. Yes, the 75/6 had the single disk in front. I assume BMW did this because of it being a bigger bike (stopping power, etc.). Whereas the 90S came out with twin disks in front (most likely for the same reasons).
