I notice some of the camp sites were in dry river beds...?
I read somewhere that more people in the Sahara Desert die drowning in flash floods (camping in wadis) than die from thirst.  :eek7:

I had that experience many years back in Botswana. I had grown up with dry river beds. All I knew as a child. I could clearly distinguish where water had run recently and where water had not run for ages, or any at all. Now I am not so sure anymore.

Yes, you shouldn't just camp in any old riverbed willy-nilly. I've heard of plenty rude awakenings wild camping in Namibia. Know where you are and keep an eye on the weather along it's catchments.
