What's the feeling on the 'in tank" fuel filter on the 690. I have a 2012 model and the cost on these are over R600 form KTM CT. The bike's got 25000 on the clock. Do I change it and if so is there something available aftermarket thats worth looking at?
we have been working on our Rally systems since 2011, starting with the 990, my own, and developping than the proper solutions to each and single bike
for the 690/701, we have developped a fuel elimination kit including the CNC part in the tank, different ones accordingly to the model if before 2010 or after when KTM changed the filter from the KL15 to the KL97, and the "big" automotive in-line unit mounted in the frame as shown on this 690

the Golan is a very nice filter, quite small and with no water segregation capability such as the paper impregnated automotive filter have, and it's quite expensive.
the main issue however is that your fuel pump and strainer are still not protected from contaminated fuel, the strainer being subjet to aggression from big particles, and the fuel pump subject to internal erosion.

15.000 km, Iceland, pump totally destroyed, no need to say more

the real solution is, as well put below, to prefilter at neck AND go external.
prefiltering at neck with a real filter not some fancy stocking net

, will totally preserve the pump and prolong the in-line filter change above 40.000 km, or more
there are filters in our product range that fit both below the original flange as well as in the screw cap both aftermarket as well as KTM original
