The Stick Coil Curse

I think at least one of the stick coils on my 2007 1200gs is going south. I won't waste time explaining the symptoms since they seem to be pretty well known. I haven't seen much discussion of alternatives to crappy and expensive BMW replacement parts since posts dating back to 2011. I also read about the Ford 5.4 liter substitute but it's a bit involved for me. So has anyone come up with any new ideas recently? I had good luck replacing the exhaust gas sensors with generic Bosch items for a fraction of the cost. So maybe lightning will strike twice.
