As jy dom is moet jy kak.
In English, if you are stupid you must suffer.
That was me on Friday

The day started off just fine. I had 8 jobs on my schedule for the day, and I had loaded up a whole lot of supplies for the day as well (23 x 40lb bags of salt, 3 x 5 gallon buckets of hydrogen peroxide, and 11 x 2.5 gallon jugs of chlorine. My van was loaded!
I finished off the first job, and was almost done with the second one. I had reversed my van up the driveway to get better access to the back doors, and on the one side there was a lot of bushes right up against the side of the van. While walking back past the van to the back doors, instead of walking around the van on the clear side, I just took the short-cut and ducked under the bushes against the side of the van.
Just as I was clear of the bushes I lifted up my head again, and slammed it full-tilt against the back door hinge where it protrudes out past the side of the van.

I immediately knew that it wasn't good, and before I could walk around the (safe side) of the van to the door mirror to take a look my left eye was full of blood.

I grabbed my sweat towel off the seat and held good pressure against the wound, then I took a quick look in the mirror.
Eish. Full depth, right down to my bone-head skull

Then the blood flowed again, so I kept the pressure on with my towel while I got a band-aid out from my first aid kit. Getting the band aid unwrapped with one hand was interesting until I just ripped the wrapper off with my teeth. Then I quickly took the towel away and put the band aid on the wound, then strapped the band aid tight with electrical insulation tape around my head. Bleeding stopped

It pays to be an ex-paramedic

I put my stuff away, closed up the van and drove to the nearest Urgent Care facility (like a Medi Cross in SA). On the way I called my boss and told him what had happened, he was really cool about it, told me to use my company credit card to pay the medical bill, and offered to take the rest of my jobs for the day. I told him I thought I would be fine, but would let him know.
At the Urgent Care they unwrapped my wound, and it had stopped bleeding. (the Urgent Care was a 25 minute drive from where I was working). See pic below of the wound after they had washed away all the old blood and kak...

Then they put in 3 stitches and covered it with a new band aid

Then I went back to work, and knocked out the remaining 6 jobs on my schedule, as well as two others that were added during the course of the day.

But by 16h30 I was sitting with a bad headache, so I called it a day and headed home.
The bill at the Urgent care for putting in 3 stiches, and I got a new Tetanus shot, was $384.00

So at todays exchange rate that would be R6 432.00

I told you that medical expenses here are high

Today it is feeling much better, the band aid sweated off yesterday already, now I am just leaving it open to stay dry and heal
