This is what a ToolTube Looks like on my F800GS. I removed the removable SWMotech pannier frames for this picture.
The screw off section of the tool tube fastens into the rear plastics. I have done 1000s of kms and this is a sturdy mounting point. The bottom section attaches to the Z mount of the pannier racks (which screws into the frame). If you don't have pannier racks, manufacturing a simple Z mount out of flat sheet metal is the easiest solution. DON'T drill a hole in the black plastic - that is a petrol tank! >
NS. I have found that using large washers on the tooltube mounting points work best to distribute weight, especially when your tools weigh 2.1kg like mine and the ride gets rough.
After installation, use a 3-5mm drill to make a small hole at the lowest point of the tool tube to drain out any water that may have entered. Nothing is totally waterproof...
