Quick notes on our recent ride a few weeks ago.
Bikes x 3 (650 Dakar, R1150GS, R80GS Kalahari)
Route: Giyani (met), Golwe Soutpansberg, Tshipise, Alldays, Platjan, Tuli area dirt riding, Bobonong, Mpoengs, Maphisa/Antelope/Kezi, Matobo / Bulawayo, Gwanda, Makhado (Zim), east across the block to Mwenezi and Lion & Elephant, home.
10 nights
Slept out rough as much as possible, fantastic.
The dirt road from Bobonong to Mpoengs was great dirt.
The dirt road from Mpoengs to Maphisa was equally lekker, with half being pretty buggered and the remainder graded dirt.
The dirt roads in the rural areas SE and S of Matobo Park were wonderful; we took it easy, respected the locals and their neighbourhoods, very friendly people, shebeens everywhere :), magnificent countryside.
The road across the block between the Byo-Beit Bridge road and the Masvingo-Beit Bridge road (a little south of Makhado village) is long, awesome. You can get a bit lost, as we did, but we just kept on heading East till we hit the black-top, after which it was hair-raising traffic at dusk and early evening to Bubye river for cold Zambezi!
Get out there, leave the GPS off the handlebar and in the pocket, slow down a bit and enjoy your surroundings as well!
Adios...
