On my way back from Margate I noticed a lack of power going uphill. The bike (04 DL650)
was fine on the trip down. At first I suspected a throttle sensor or a loose intake tube.
The bike made it back to Springs but with a max speed of 120.
A quick search on the net pointed me to the fuel pump/filter, an internal set-up.
The pick up screen was so blocked up with rubbish, it was a miracle that I made it home.
A new HP filter costs 4K and the screen about R750. A new pump/filter assy. is 11.5K.
Van Breda Suzuki was kind enough to flush/backwash the pump and HP filter, and I replaced
the pick up screen. They found evidence of rust residue and bingo! rusty tank.
The tank is in for a clean and liner, and by the weekend we will see if the old girl is happy again.
There is a procedure to bypass the HP filter by drilling one hole and fitting an inline filter.
That is plan B though. I`ll keep you guys updated, lets hope for the best!
