Kalahari Rally
« on: February 10, 2018, 07:39:44 am »
Anyone with more information on this, costs etc.?  I can't get into the website.  Edit - I see the website only goes live end of February.

A pity it's so close to the Tankwa cross country.

Is this going to be an event that is run under an FIM umbrella? Hope so. Having visions of the Namaqua all over again.

Very excited about this. At last something closer to us Gautengers. And I’m glad to see that we will now have proper rally with cars bikes and quads. There must so many Dakar spec cars in this country after all the attempts at the real thing. I will certainly try and follow this on my adv bike and maybe compete in a year or two.

Think I might do the adventure class - not too keen on buying all that nav kit again.

BUT ...... maybe .............. we can run the adventure class on our 450s ....... hmm

And a start and finish in Mafikeng .................. big bonus  :thumleft:

HI GUYS,

FIRSTLY FANK YOU KOBUS 4 SHERRING THJIS POAST!!!

Yes guys my typing skills are not so lekka ...even with 2 people shecking the broschure LOL  :)

To answer some questions, the idea for this rally sarted in 2014 when i raced Namaq with my team, Simon Schimmel
who some of you mayy know put this crazy idea in my head, and fed the mnster over the past 3 years.

We did not want to launch this as amageza gained tractin and would rather have supported alex amageza and RRR then focused
on building bikes...that being said I served n MSA for 15yrs as well as Mike for over 40yrs and both of us served as chair at MMC
for many years with the Maf 1000/500, so we not going iin blind or inexperienced. In a addition I personally raced at a top level back in
the day, and then rallies locally over seas...that a bit about us.

No one can guarentee a perfect rally or race, that we have come to learn over 30 yrs of Maf 500/1000, we will make mistakes, but its how
one is prepared to fix those mistakes during the event.

The costing will be out this week as you could see on the one post...
Tracking and timing is a big priority as well as  medical support(see the brochure)...these 2 items
are more than 50% of our costs, aside from the road books.

We have also brought in a very experienced international rally organiser and rally control centre for our brains trust
as a technical advisor, to asists us so that we dont have to reinvent the wheel! (almost like what the boks needed LOL...too soon LOL :) )

I cant promise we will be perfect, what I can promise is that we are putting so much in place to avoid mistakes, i.e....
2 pre runners 2 stages ahead of the rally, 5 route directors 1 for each stage (supporting each other), FIA standatd R/books,
technical advisors for the relevat categories, etc etc...and 2 Rally Directors for continuity!

These are the basics around our approach, maybe not perfect, but the watsap group of over 60 potential competitors(locally & Intern.)
gave us so much input on what they wanted and teh short falls.

Remember Alex set the bar, and really pioneered rally after Namaq, so we need to build on his legacy and keep it alive!!!
I may not be the right person to do this, but someone had to put up their hand and be willing, so I really hope that you will help keep rally
alive in SA!!! :)

IF you are really keen onracing or doing the adventure class pls watsap me your number and I will gladly add you...
The group is a no chatter and no posting funnies group...we keep it strict and relevant...if you keen!

Thanks guys and look forward to your comments!

Cheers
Garth Roberts

WOW this going to be epic. Wish you all the best and success with the planning and executing of this rally. SA needs to show the world there is more than cricket and rugby  :peepwall: in this country.

Well Garth, wishing you all the best for the preparations. Trusting you will get all the permissions and permits without too much hassle and that your road book guy is good.

Hopefully the pre-runners will be a good while before the actual event otherwise it will just be a case of following tracks!  ;D
