« on: June 30, 2018, 09:37:50 am »
Hi all,

Hope you all have a awesome ride and if you reading this, your probably have and now your enjoying the read!

I would like to remove my old indocator lights on my Dakkie, and replace with LED indicators. Knowing that resistance could play a part in the troubleshooting, i thought it a great idea to ask here, maybe some of you have done it and could point me of everything i might need! Apart from the leds ofcourse...lol..

Thanks in advance guys!

Just a new LED flasher relay. I picked mine up on Ebay for about R50. But I think Startline locally carries one for around R150 that some others have bought?

You will find the relay, a small black cube, on a little plastic bracket attached under and infront of the battery on the 650GS. Has a plug with 2 wires on it. Remove the old one, plug the replacement LED flasher relay and everything should work 100%.

MrG, I see some people change to LED indicators?
Why would one do it?
Are they lighter, cheaper to replace, no bulbs. Why?

I sourced a few sets of these....in the one pic I compare them to the BMW LED's on my GSA..... near as dammit...far more cost effective!

A set of 4 from eBay costs R100-150 while a single replacement from BMW of the original is R350!!!

I had a set of the ones pictured, but was not very impressed with their brightness. They are white LED's with an amber filter. I'd rather go with a set of Amber LED without the need of the filter.

The other bonus of these, is they have a rubber stem, so are flexible and almost indestructable.

Hi all

I find the leds to be much cheaper, and also out of an look on the bike its amazing. You also have the benefit of not having these bulky globe boxes on the side of your bike, that in time just fades and the globes are just not the same as the leds.

Some people prefer the leds to globes and I one of them...lol...

The set I ended up running on my Dakar

@alouette3

Is it a mission to fasten the LED indicators.
I see they are different to the OEM ones.
That nut will have to be fasted from the inside.

I had to enlarge the standard hole slightly, by about 1mm. You could still fit the stand indicators again if you wanted to.

The nut attachment is actually easy enough to attach.

I fitted 2.3mm male spade connectors to the indicators which plug directly into the stock indicator bulb fittings.

Remember LED's need the correct polarity, so if one doesn't work, switch the wires around.
