First real offroad ride.  Out to Parys and then the Vredefort dome loop around the river a bit.

1- God damn it's fast.  Even in Offroad mode, the speed sneaks up quickly.  Nudged 120 a few times (which is fast for me) and I've only ever done that like once on the 1190.  I think it's the longer gearing as well as the sheer grunt.
2- on the gearing, it does seem happier at low RPM than the 1190.   3rd at around 80 feels like too much rpm, but then 4th drops the revs under 4000, but it feel fine. It doesn't struggle at all cruising under 4k rpm.   I still want to shorten the gearing via 16T front.

3- It does feel a little harsher than the 1190.  This may be because I'm riding harder/faster than I did previously and also just getting used to this higher spring rate in the forks. It just seems to not like corrugations at all, banging and clattering around.....Maybe I just need to go faster haha. I just felt like I was working harder, but there was a lot of loose sand on that route compared to what Im used to.  Felt good in the sand though.

4- Cruising back on the N1, with the navigation going on the dash, and playing tunes in my helmet, I was loving life.  It's bloody good at doing big tar distances, I'm not sure why it feels easy than the 1190 but it does, to me anyway.

Awesome stuff.

interesting comment on it seemingly being harsher. Are you riding comparable suspension settings?

I haven't fiddled with anything so I PRESUME it's on the standard settings.  I should probably check though

4 day trip to Swaziland.  Pretty epic!   LOVING the bike.

Banging it on the tar pass up to Kaapsehoop and then between Barberton and Bulembu (Holy shit what a road!!!!) and it was epic.  Even on knobblies getting some real lean on and chilling with guys on Tigers with trail tyres.  Really never felt like the knobblies where really sliding....They seem to talk to you a bit on the way to the limit lol, so you know when to back off a bit.

Then a lot of Dirt....the road from Bulembu to Piggs peak is also epic.  Really pushed the big girl on that road a bit and it came alive. Man that was a jol.   Some other road of the weekend I got caught at the back and decided rather to chill than to fight my way through the dust.  I like being able to see where I'm going.

We took some chilled roads down to Hawane and then Mlilwane and having the music control on the dash was really great. Just cruising those passes listening to tunes. Perfect.

Then the long road home yesterday at 140-150 all day.  No problems.

The only thing I need to figure out is chain lube.   After the weekend of dusty riding the chain was moaning like hell on the way home yesterday.  I see motorex is bringing out an adventure lube soon so maybe that is the way.
Options currently seem to be: Offroad lube and re-apply every 2 bloody minutes. Or Onroad lube and pick up huge amounts of dirt and dust on the fun bits and then it squeaks and chirps all the way home on the tar.

i think the security cable will work better if you put it through the rim

1 spoke ???

sorry but 1 spoke is not going to be any kind of deterrent ???

Haha yeah it's just a paint threading it through the whole wheel.   It's also just tied to a generator, so they could just steal both

While on a trip I use Q20.
Wont say its the best, but it sure cures the chain moaning. Mine sometimes start to vibrate when the chain is very dry.

Yes!!  I get hectic engine vibes over like 5000RPM when the chain get dry.  Numb hands, feet and balls all the way home yesterday

Made some changes:

Scott Adv upper crash bars.

Then I got the Rottweiler quick flip mirror mounts from my Aunt who came over from the states.  I bought the mirrors locally (much cheaper than Rottweiler, but they don't have set indents for the positions, you just move em where you want em.)   Getting used to them. They do seem to reduce buffeting on the highway a bit, but need more riding time to say definitively.

I like the look without giant mirrors.

don't those mirrors hamper you a bit when lane splitting?

Haven't done any hectic splitting yet, but it's been ok so far.  I have literally done like 20kms with them on, I need some more time with them to really see. I'm going to try the position in the 3rd pic And see how that goes, Because they're so wide you get a view of almost directly behind you if you have any of your body in view (shoulders), so to get a good side-rear view I need to get used to not seeing my own shoulder haha.

Done some work on the beast.  After some epic road riding in Sabie in December and a Trackday in Jan, back to dirt status.

Fitted Powerparts hand guards and drilled holes to mount the rottweiller mirror mounts.

Made a decent heat shield for the pannier racks (Shorty exhaust is a bit dangerous for soft bags and Rokstraps )

And fitted GPS as per other thread.  Sani end of the month. KEEN!
