..................it's really not a good idea to fill it with diesel.

Pulled into the service station at Taylor's Halt during a ride yesterday and told the attendant to fill my tank with unleaded, please.

200m down the road my bike started coughing and spluttering like it had never done before. It would idle, but as soon as I opened the throttle it died. Realizing this problem was not a random coincidence I opened my petrol cap, sure enough my tank was filled with diesel.

So, bike on it's side, emptied most of the diesel out, the rest out the fuel cock, flushed the tank with a bit of petrol I carry in a 2l coke bottle, and back to the garage to once again fill up with unleaded.

This time I made sure that the attendant put unleaded in  ;D

Bike was 100% after this and ride completed with no issues.
How can I be lost when I have got nowhere to go?

Yup, I was pretty pee'd off at first, but it only cost me 10 minutes in wasted riding time and R100 in wasted diesel.

One of the (very few) benefits of having an 8.5 litre tank   ::)

........and you can't even complain and ask for your money back, because they will either say, "okay give us back the diesel", or more likely point to a disclaimer saying that it's your responsibility to ensure that the correct type of fuel is dispensed. Bummer. :xxbah:

No you can complain.

The service station manager was quite prepared to refund me the R100 I paid for the diesel, they acknowledged the attendant had made a mistake.

But the R100 would have come from the attendant's pay who can afford it less than me  :(
