2006 1200 gs Adv fuel gauge not working

Hey everyone. So I bought my first 1200 adv from a friend. Previously owned an 1150. 
Any case... bought it with the fuel gauge not working at all. Just give an empty reading. Where doni start looking to fix it.

Do you have access to a GS911?.  If so, that will tell you where the problem lies.

If the fault is in the sensor element,  you can zap it and it will be sorted.
However, if the fault is in the heater element, you will have to replace the sensor unit.

Isnt the fuel strip a recall on these bikes ?

Jip it is the Heater element that gone. Need a new unit. All my research shows that this unit was discontinued and they went back to a float system. Gosh, so irritating!
