1290 R guys. Manual settings for shock preload?
« on: June 07, 2019, 05:58:05 pm »
Guys.

What do your manuals say for the recommended preload settings on the rear?   Seems there are conflicting numbers on the interwebs for some reason?

What does your manual say though for "standard"?

It seems some manuals out there say 2 clicks, and some (like mine) say 12 clicks!  That's quite a significant difference.

My manual also states 12 clicks for Standard, but the sticker on the bike says 2 clicks.

Which one do we believe?

Shit I never thought to check the sticker.  The mystery gets even deeper!!!!

I discovered mine was on 2 clicks from the dealer, but I turned it up to 12 on Friday and went sending it over some speed bumps and I prefer it on 12. Feels more stable and gets rid of this "heavy front" feeling I've always had on the 1290 that I never had on the 1190.

I think I'm gonna run it hard like this.

Remember that clicks on the preload is full turns.

shouldn't preload be that 30% sag setting? would be interesting to know what % sag its at with those settings.

I left mine at 27% slag, but non standard suspension means the settings values has no value

Yeah so I measured on friday which is what caused the question.

I measured the sag where is was set from the dealer (actually 2 clicks/turns harder because I had stiffened it a bit for Sani.   65mm rider sag. Then I measured how many turns that was and it was 4 turns in from all the way out.  MY manual says it should be 12 turns in.

I set it to 12 turns and it feels much nicer to me. Sag went down to 55mm. Statis sag went to 22mm.
