I’ve only ever done Baviaans once and that was up towards Patensie. Is there much of a difference coming down?

The road always looks different when coming from the opposite end.............regardless of the road you ride  :ricky:

I personally think it is one of the nicer places to ride as you aren't getting totally covered in dust and you can ride the back of the mountain range . Whenever I do a big trip from gauteng  i always include baviaanskloof.

The noticeable difference to me is that when riding West to East ie towards Patensie, Should you meet with an assertively driven 4x4 who wants all the road, you are on the 'wrong' side and on the passes you can be mighty close to the drop off edge.

On more than one occasion when I've spotted such a character coming, I've insisted on going to the right hand side of the road and stuff the rules.  :peepwall:

Another approach is to just stop.... then the car HAS to miss you instead of gambling you'll give way  ;)
I did this mith my 4x4 in the rain (flooded roads ) in Moz when trucks were approaching, the wanted to drive in the middle of the road (which was impossible to see!) hence I stood to loose the cruiser.... so I just stopped every time!
They hooted in anger but missed me, it works  :thumleft:

Yes - you have to ride the other way-west.
