The noticeable difference to me is that when riding West to East ie towards Patensie, Should you meet with an assertively driven 4x4 who wants all the road, you are on the 'wrong' side and on the passes you can be mighty close to the drop off edge.
On more than one occasion when I've spotted such a character coming, I've insisted on going to the right hand side of the road and stuff the rules.
Another approach is to just stop.... then the car HAS to miss you instead of gambling you'll give way

I did this mith my 4x4 in the rain (flooded roads ) in Moz when trucks were approaching, the wanted to drive in the middle of the road (which was impossible to see!) hence I stood to loose the cruiser.... so I just stopped every time!
They hooted in anger but missed me, it works
