Cleaning a sprayed Carb......How to Please??
« on: June 19, 2020, 11:46:04 am »
Good Day Gents

I want to remove paint from my Tenere 600's carb, when they sprayed the engine they also - well obviously - thought the carb would look awesome in black. Yuk.

How do I this, what do I use to strip of all the paint??

I'm thinking of letting it lie in some solution like thinners/acetone/whatever??

It's getting a new carb kit next week, so I want this nicely cleaned up by then.

THANKS

I know that cooking a carb in lemon juice cleans it nicely, but I'm not sure if it will take the paint of.

Maybe you can try a small piece of the carb with some paint stripper and see how it works.

If you seal up the carb carfully, you could have it soda blasted or otherwise let it lie in thinners until the paint lifts. Scrub with brush.  Not sure how it will affect the small O rings, but if you are getting a new kit, it should be ok?

While busy with my restoration I had all my bike bits, incl. the carb, successfully vapour blasted - safely removes dirt and paint.

I also have a vapour blaster and cleaned a few carbs with it. Comes out better than new.
