What new Adventure Bike, less than 600cc??
« on: September 11, 2021, 07:34:43 pm »
Browsing around.

What new Adv type scramblers are available today, except for the following ones that I have seen??

Around 600cc, as light as possibbe (for what it is), say around 140/150 kg?? And Road Legal??

1) The KTM 390 Thingie
2) The Honda CRF 300
3) Honda CRF 450 L
4) KTM 690 ?? Roadworthy Bike thingie
5) Tenere 700

Of all the above (that Ive seen) the 450 L looks nice, but its seat height sounds WAY too high. And service intervals (but ja, I guess one could get around that in a way).
That 390 KT also looks good on paper, but I just cant get over the "hairdresser" look. But I think a good buy. But not 4 me.
Maybe also the CRF 300.....maybe. But I like the Rally more (not available yet though), and I dunno - at a couple G's more I think that 450 is a better buy (think so)
That 690 KT Roadworthy Enduro thingie - also nice I think. Havent checked Price though. But looks like a nice Adv bike thingie.
The T 700 also GREAT, maar R 240 000 vir 'n bike vir MY gebruik is pure spilsgeit - om op te som. I'll never EVER use it to its full "potential" - I've got very medium riding skills.
I havent checked out BMW yet.....I guess the 800GS is also a GREAT bike. But heavy.

..........or look for a MINT bike like a Husky Terra??

Just browsing......but ja, also sort of "surprised" that gone are the days when you can go buy a new XT 660/XR 650/Husky/BMW 650 - stuff like that.
XT 600 Tenere

At 140/150kg, you can remove that porky T7  from your list :lol8:

Been adv riding thes class of bikes for a while now and the most important thing has been gear ratios.

If you can get a CRF450L with power up kit, it would be a good choice.
Nothing matches a KTM 450/500 for light weight and long gear ratios though.

Look for rtwpaul on YouTube. A guy travelling the globe on a 500.

Gear ratios are a mind thing. What does gear ratios have to do with adventure touring??  You adapt to what ratios your machine has.

You make it sound like only once the 6th gear was added, did adventure riding begin. :imaposer:

That is part reason why KTM clutches kak so much, they have to deal with too high a torque transfer due to overgearing. Idiots don't learn.

Build a weak clutch, then overload it. :ricky:

1) The KTM 390 Thingie - JUNK
2) The Honda CRF 300 - You'll be to old when it arrives
3) Honda CRF 450 L - nice (don't know much about it but nice)
4) KTM 690 ?? Roadworthy Bike thingie - cool, needs long range fuel tank though to call it an "adventure bike"
5) Tenere 700 - too big

What about Husky 701?  Technically its 693cc  (you said 600cc-ish)

Speak for yourself of course.
I would bet that most folks would not enjoy sitting above 6k rpm at 120km/h.

Adventure is just that: adventure. This means that you don't always know what's coming and being able to cover distance when needed and not revving the tits off the motor, helps.

Tjom, leer nou mooi: die 6/7/890 het kak clutches. Hul weeg ook meer as 140kg.
Dus nie van toepassing hier nie.

Goudvis ??

Don't think you will be able to find a new 450L anymore unfortunately.

AJP PR7?
