FRAGILE EARTH

Land Rover is committed to the environment through its Fragile Earth policy, which is emphasised in all
our training courses.
We, with Land Rover South Africa, continue to promote the principle of responsible off-road driving to all
4x4 owners, allowing them to get the most out of their vehicle, and their countryside by safeguarding the
environment. Through Fragile Earth, recreationists can learn to recreate with care, so that the land will
always be available to be enjoyed.

In the words of Chief Seattle,
"we do not inherit the earth from our forefathers, we borrow it from our children"

Country Code:

People and Wildlife
- wildlife always takes priority over your own progress
- be aware of animals' nervousness, and be prepared to switch off your engine and wait
- never follow or pursue frightened animals
- in poor light be careful not to dazzle animals in your headlights
- avoid engine revs
- always respect the privacy of other people
Litter
- always bring back what you take with you
- never bury litter
Access
- a road marked on a map does not automatically confer right of way. If in doubt, ask the
appropriate authority
- access to land varies from country to country. Be aware of the appropriate regulations
- always seek permission to traverse private land
Erosion
- be extremely sensitive to soft ground and avoid it if at all possible
- where tracks exist, use them
- if you are travelling over open veld in convoy, do not follow exactly in each others tracks
Driving
- how little damage you do to the environment depends on how you drive
- always proceed gently
- always carry out initial reconnaissance on foot
- get your passengers to marshal you over difficult terrain
- select the correct gear
- never use the handbrake to slow you down
- avoid situations that may cause wheel spin or wheel lock
- pay special attention to slopes, water and ditches
- make sure your vehicle is equipped with the appropriate tyres and pressures

====================

This may be Landrover's policy but I subscribe to it also.
Quad manufacturers/retailers should have similar policy.
