bmp is supported though generaly the file size will be to big.
simplest way is to open it in mspaint (start - > run -> type "mspaint" hit enter) and save a copy as a Jpeg (.jpg)

Jip, best to save as .jpg file. A .bmp file is an uncompressed type of file and for the same image it will be a file size easily more than 10 times bigger.
Most picture editors will be able to save as jpeg (jay-peg).
