Ek het nou flippen lank gelees en vergeet om te eet. Ek is seker daarvan ek lewe in verkeerde tyd.

Die thread is op December 07, 2006 gemaak en daar is nog replies in 2012!! Awesome

Na ek die hele storie en kommentaar/getuigskrifte gelees het, bly een ding by my vas steek....

Waar is die boek? Wat is sy naam?

Sal like om vir my toppie 'n copy te kry. Hy is direk na skool mag toe en is nogsteeds daar.
I'm not saying kill stupid people, I'm saying, remove the warning labels and let the problem sort itself out.

:imaposer:

Jeez Pete that's a bit harsh boet  But it's getting there.....

Dan - which intake were you again? Pardon my dumb question - just got home from the pub

I offered to set up a SWASPES website if someone will administer it - I don't know enough, or have the time, to do so.

The problem with Facebook is, anything you put on there they consider THEIR property.  Fuck 'em. I proposed a private, CLOSED SWASPES site where okes can put their stories and photos and KEEP THE INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS, and the response was very loud and positive.  No Hardly-Ableson wankers, Dutch activists or yank know-it-all right wing gun nuts - just okes who actually served in the unit.

I personally have almost 200 photos and 60 stories I refuse to post on FB because of mentioned privacy issues.

I'm also withdrawing completely from FB - only went there to look at Spes page anyways, but it's getting too generic for me.

Cheers

I arrived in Berede in Potch for training at the beginning of April 1979, and after about 3 months we moved up to Swaspes base in Oshvello. I klaared out end of 1980. Our oumanne were on XL350's, and we were the first guys to get XR500's, steel tank twinshock bikes with the angular rear fenders.

Wherethefuckarewe - I remember the names De Wet and De Kock - what is Patrick's surname??

I remember those 2 pricks De Wet and De Kock (ugly little dark skin - almost sif looking okes) - I was in Plt 9 and during a big inspection the Cpl from platoon 8 came over and did my inspection Cpl Greg Richmond - nothing ever pleased him...for once he said he was impressed and then these new PF arse holes come into
the bungalow and trash my shit - throw my kas over tip my bed on the floor and kak on my head for a shit inspection... - Cpl. Greg Richmond and Cpl. Steenkamp had some words with them about their behavior and they backed off.

I am in contact with about a dozen of our guys.
Lt. Goosen Platoon 8 and my Lt. was Greg Cochran.

My best friend was in Pl 6 (or 7, he can't remember, the dumbshit) and I knew Dave Buck then, he lives 3 k's away from where I am now.  Do you remember any of these okes? .....Brian Dial (have contact with him), Derek Bruff, Johan le Roux, Craig Cousins, CP Nel,  Olwage,  Jerry du Preez, and of course Pieter Swanepoel who hit the mine. Or Peter Fourie? I just made contact with him too, he's in Windhoek. Or any of the corporals? Clem da Mata? Dommiekie de Klerk? Claassen, Froneman, Chandler? Staff Beets? Or the loots, Wannenburg or Basson? I am also in contact with Capt. Stroebel's family, he's been dead for more than ten years now.

These guys were our platoon 8/9 Ou manne I was in Platoon 9 and am in contact with about a dozen of the okes from then. Intesting reading - I have lots of pictures as well.
Guys that I was with in those platoons - Rob and Fred Grant, Kiepie Malherbe, Angie Tissen, Robbie Dirksen, Ian Scanlen, Meiring Beetge, William Labuschagne (Monty), Anton Barnard, Brian Scott , Steve Scott, Craig DeVilliers, Dougie Will, Barnie Barnard, Giovanni Palmieri, Juan Van Der Spek, Mark Williamson, L.Cpl Wilson, Peter Said, Trevor Binder to name a few.

:pot: whethefakatheboek  :peepwall:

:pot:whethefakatheboek :peepwall: - agreed wtf where is the book? Do you need some upfront funds to help finance it? I am sure many people would pre pay for the book to help off set the costs - I have 16 plus email addresses of Platoon 8/9 guys.

This thread was a good read today as i sit in a wet cold England. I was a British immigrant and while I didn’t need to go into the army I volunteered in std 8 at school!  I had a xr250 (old steel tank 1980 model) that I used to ride to school and play on the mine dumps on the weekend.  I ended up in 6 SAI in 1983 and asked to join the bike squad when they asked what we wanted to do.  The corporal told me I was wasting my time as they weren’t taking guys anymore.  Seems like he/they were lying seeing as someone else joined from 6SAI (as mentioned above).  As bikes were all I thought about this was devastating for me and I lost all interest in the army and looked for the easiest time possible after that – got in some trouble too so got shipped off to the border for six months and again for three months after that. This completely changed my life as my long term girlfriend slept with someone else and got pregnant!  Hence a different path in life which brought me back to the UK and I’m still totally immersed in dirt bikes – did a big enduro last Sunday in Wales.
Anyway the reason I’m posting this is: I was in bed reading the thread and my wife looked over and asked what I was reading as she could see the old blurred pics of the bikes.  I explained to her it was the ‘bike squad’ in the army and told her it was my dream at the time to join.  She replied “bloody hell, if you did join you’d still be there now”.  ;D ;D ;D

hell its too long ago now to remember the guys names. i think we were last but one from the end?  yep those crappy old ones!  i remember there were PE guys in the bungalow but more English/Durban guys. i think the PE guys were further along near the front?  Our corporal was killed in a car crash at one point during basic training.  Near the end of basic training i caused a bit of a problem as i refused a punishment drill one night (a sick and tired of taking crap for others) and the sergeant (massive permanent force guy) gave me a bit of a slap about.  I think they were worried what I might say so they offered me anything I wanted.  Seeing as I was nearly though the worst I decided to stay in the army but moved to HQ Company after basic training.  Got into some crap in the township one night, which followed us back to the main gate and kicked off again.  Got declared a fair fight and got shipped out with alpha company for six months then again for three months.
