I saw a Dakar insert on 2wheels this afternoon, apparently it costs something like 50000 euros to enter!

They were talking to a local who entered, surname Classen, his website is http://www.classen.co.za/.

Tom the plumber Classen.

There are a lot of other riders from SA also racing.

The dude who rode the Desert 1000 on his big 640 KTM etc, Albert Hintenaus too.

The SA contingent....

Christo Aspeling
Oz Bestal
Tom Classen
Albert Hintenaus
Hein Joubert
Neville Murray
And not to forget Elmer "shortcut" Symons

No big twins since 2003.  That even is a bit bullshit on motorcycles side since then, ill limitations and they still earn their reputation via riders deaths doing too long stages - bit idiots are in control of that event since then. And it's the 4x4 cages gettin' the main focus. Not much heroism is left in that event, compared to pre-2003.

KTM no doubt will take all the first 4-5 spots if not 10 spots. KTM factory owns a real estate in Marocco for quite some years now and KTM factory riders know the Lisbon-Dakar track throughoutly, having the most detailed background information and the intensive time training there on the spot, making it unfrair competition for others, especially the privateers.

I was hoping for Yamaha could do some competition since they decided to take "russian style of war" strategy as the KTM does: strenght in numbers, but i think they just don't have much chances looking at the current situation on the Dakar event. Even with the world's very best riders they couldn't compete against KTM factory teams

If it starts on either of those two days, it would mean that I can't party all that hard on New Years. Would be a shame to still be babbelaas when that starts.  :drunken:
