East coast to West coast tour(many pics)
« on: March 03, 2006, 08:41:21 pm »
Our Dec 2005 trip from East London around Cape town to Lambertsbaai and back to East London. Total distance was short of 5000km in the less than 2weeks. We tried to do as many passes as possible, dirt and tar.I am not a big writer, pics is easier to do.I wanted to do a ride report a while back but was to lazy, so here goes.
Left East London at 6 the morning, beautifully day for riding.First stop Knysna, getting really hot and we desperately need a beer. At Wilderness and it is getting really hot.

The next morning had drinks at this nice place in Rooi Els, maybe the Cape town people know this place.

The spec is Table mountain cable car.

Inside the West coast National Park, water all around us, and the colour of the water is stunning.

At Saldanna bay is this great fish restaurant.Give it a go, when you go there it is great.

Local bird life and the fishers community is a life and well.

On our way to Paternoster was this beautifully place, an the old South Africa is still going strong.Apparently these people rent the ground from a farmer for the holidays.

Playing around the afternoon in St Helenasbaai, just riding around.

Sleep here, and man, can they build a steak!!

Going from St Helena Baai to Elandsbaai and then Lambersbaai, roads are great. Where to now?

HEY! I rode past this guy's tent on my New Year's trip - is it Trekoskraal?

If you scroll down to the bottom of my report you will find a brief mention of it: http://www.bmw-motorrad.co.za/lifestyle/articles/default.asp?Id=412

The view from our hotel room at lamberts at night.

Meeting Malice and his wife in Langebaan for lunch.

At last some dirt, this road leads from Langebaan to Picketberg and Vredendal, riding dirt the whole day aaaag lekker.Sand is awesome, sliding, sliding

And shes getting risky, taking these pics while riding at 80k/ph:shock:
These roads are amazing fun to ride, any speed, no traffic, no animals.

Stayed over in Vredendal and went out to go ride Van Rhyns pass, the view is breathtaking.

Playing around in Strandfontein, what mind boggling, is the people coming here for holiday, this water is ice cold how the hell do they swim here?

This place is on Doringbaai, we drank wine on this ship till sundown, we get sunrises in East London here we enjoyed sunsets, breathtaking.

On our way to the Cederberg mountains and Wupperthal. I just feel good, dirt, dirt, dirt, what a day for riding,

Small piece concrete road, maybe for the locals, the road is very steep, in the background is the road through the Cederberg,

Wupperthal in the background

Out from the Cedererg we went to Tulbagh and Bianskloof, that pass is FUN.

It was so hot we decided to take a swim in a farmers dam

On our way back home home we rode the Bloukrans pass again.

That's a nice pic. It reminds me of the time-travelling DeLorean in 'Back to the Future'

Wonderfull report ! Lots of places I still want to visit. Love the Bloukrans road, can't believe everyone skips it and takes the toll road.
