and you can ride too if you really want to"
Took Wednesday off to spend some time with my little boys.
With a break in the weather we packed our fishing rods and went down to Grootrivierpoort via Elandsrivier road.
Stopping at the normal spots for a pic.
Bulk river dam
Sandriver dam
then rode on a bit and suddenly felt lonely on my own, so stopped and waited and waited but...
nothing ahead or behind
Rode back to find Owen had one of those gogga in helmet biting cheek moments.
Then on to the valley lookout stop.
Pin cushion proteas in bloom all around.
Then up to the tower for the view but took a pic of the other direction
Then we went back and took the Grootrivier turn off and got closer to the Cockscomb for more pics
Eco friendly biking
Wandered why J-dogs being so quite on the forum?
His ride deserted him for greener pastures
After a few gates we finally got to the edge of the river and decided on the group foto.
Me nad my little boys
Left to right Me, Owen & Byron
Ahh.. at last the poort crossing.
with a bit more water in it.
We gathered some wood for the fire only to discover we had no matches or lighter.
Dipped a rolled up newspaper into the tank, got two pieces of bloudraad, and using the battery to make a spark, we got the paper burning and bob became your aunty.
While we where braaing a Wdog (can't remember his name) and two mates came done from Steytlerville side.
They weren't as lucky as us.
first the 690 fell asleep almost at the end and lay down.

Then the African Twin started blowing water out the exhaust while still in shallow water
Too many pipes hanging low there
Pushed through
The last KTM made it through though
Then while they stripped and got water out of engines and exhausts, we braaied.
I was going to offer them some to but I was scared they'd say yes.
Then Byron and I cast a few lures around while Owen shot pics.
Owen being eye-balled by a dragonfly.
siding up to these ones
Then we decided to continue to Steytlerville, just because.
Owen
Byron
the view of the poort from the other side
and onward stopping occasionally to check out the views. I Already have lots of pics from other rides so only took a few
Rocks are important out here.
Then gravel highway to Steytlerville for beers and milkshake.
Then return route started looking cloudy, and with Owen's rear tyre being a smooth worn Sirac we did not want to be caught in the rain.
We stopped at the poort again and each had a can of mixed fruit for energy when the rain caught up.
On the slope out Owen's back wheel just spun on the clay so he had to aim for the rocky sections you normally avoid to get sufficient traction.
Fortunately we made it through with no off's, but plenty of close calls.
But we rode out of the larger drops and ended up doing Elandrivers in a light mist rain.
Owen's beauty treatment
Once we hit the tar it came done a bit harder but that was great, we need the rain in PE.
we left home a 7AM and returned at ±6pm after an awesome day.
We have a beautiful country and are truly blessed to be able to ride it. :3some:
