Wow 35k that was a bargain ! why do i have a feeling if it was on sale by ktm sa that must have been Darryl`s old enduro race bike that he did the last races with in 2009 when the 450`s was sold out. What a Bike. Susp would have been upgraided !

Hell you are right.Went on the website of ktm and thats the pic that came with the 500. Will have to
see about the Xcw they only show the European spec exc on the site but have been the last 3 year's and everytime the american spec Xcw do land here in SA. Here's a nother 500 six days pic.Can't see wat it
sez on the back side on my ka.. Phone ! O ja i read on the site they talk off new black harder spokes and the rims on the six day`s.

These are all pretty damn awesome, but none of them are DS imho. They're all big enduro bikes.

Big enduro with street legal kit = DS

Big ass fat heavy BM1200 ktm 990 etc = adventure bike IMHO

Most farkle or bling their bikes...making them "better" DS in the process.

These need to be de-farkled (or de-blinged)..i.e it needs a number plate, they come out with flickers, brake light, hi/lo beam etc. as European enduro bikes need, in some cases, be road legal for liason sections...our gain, I say.

True for EXC but XCW comes without all that stuff - they are absolutely awesome bikes, whether you use it as DS or Off-road

Mine is a special "Factory Racing" edition, which is even prettier - even if I have to say so myself

Wow Darksider that`s spotless 530 you got there ! I Realy have a big love for them,have my 3de one now but have to say for a `09 you realy take good good care off her just by looking at those header,slip on and spotless rims but anyway just want to know wat make`s her better than the plain 530`s,or is it only cosmetic.

Truly BEATIFUL .Dam I just have to say again that`s bloody NICE !!!!!!!

Thanks - but that was on the day I bought it - still very good, but does not quite look like that anymore. Also has a 12L transparent tank - which makes it even nicer.

Beautiful bikes, but there is something very unsettling about having to grind a couple hundred kays away on a high-revving "D/S" bike at120km/h. Not suitable. Nice for close venues, where public roads has to be used. And the rider is too inept to duck the cops.

Both the KTM and the Husaberg have 6 speed trannys, with the right gearing 120 should not be a problem. My issue with them is the high competition nature of the engine, the small oil capacity, and the rather brisk maintenance cycle. (Which by the way, should you keep to it, would reward you with lots of trouble free km's)

For me, not commuting with a bike at all, not a problem, but I think anymore than that...not an ideal option, but then, it is not DS either.

I'm using my 450 only for DS rides. Once a month during summer.
120KM/h @ 3200rpm

This reply from a guy with a street legal 450:

RFS "adventure bike" post mortem.

Not a 525, but a 450XC with RFS motor.

Did a 2,000 mile loop last March on the 450XC. Just prior I had put in new stainless valves and OEM piston. 14x48 gearing. 400 additional miles since then. No oil cooler, no radiator fan.

Post mortem: Valves have not moved at all. Oil always look nice and clean at 600 mile intervals, frame oil screens never had any metal in them. Bike was flawless. Rode in the "weak" sixth gear for hours and hours and hours on slab/gravel/etc.

Bike seems well up to the task.

Ek stem saam `beserker` die fietse is nie gemaak vir sulke lang volgehoue enjin revolusies oor sulke lang afstande nie veral die 2008-2011 450`s en 530`s want daar`s maar net 600 mil enjin olie in daai enjin`s.dink die ouer generasie fietse sal beter wees ek sien die nawe 2012 450`s en 500`s gan weer enjin en ratkas olie deel so ktm beweeg weer terug na ou enjin-ratkas olie deel werking !! Wonder hoekom

Weet ook nie van julle nie maar my gat sal dit nooit hou om ds rywerk langer as -+400 km te doen nie
