Its a 2000 model.
Bought it yesterday, ran lekke but today it just died, sounds like a roughish sound in the crankcase area.

The barrel and piston still excellent, so could be a conrod or main bearing?

It kicks but you can feel its not smooth. So we dont want to cause anymore damage now.
Must find a good and affordable 2smoke mechanic ASAP!!!

That is the thing about most older MX bikes, they were ridden close to death and most end up as money pits. Good luck, had a KX once and their spares are more expensive than the other Jap bikes. YZ best choice.

Swannie !On the left hand side of your kx you will find the magneto cover, take it of and Look behind the macneto you will find the `Stator`with the two coils that is part of the stator ! The macneto spins round the stator and generates the power if one can call it that that gives the spark for the plug. You will see 2 or 3 wires running from the stator up to the plug, just look if one of the wires isn`t broken !! GOING ON A LONG SHOT HERE, but that was a know problem with our KX bikes in varsity !! Hope it helpes and my memory served me right. PEET DINK HY WEET ! OOR EN UIT ! Sterkte  :thumleft:

Roughness or/and vibration from engine sounds like big-end bearing. Any play in bottom of conrod where it attaches to crankpin? Strip and a set of mains, seals and a con-rod kit from Dux and you are on your way.
