From my side:

Ian and myself decided to trailer our KDX's up so we could enjoy the wide open expanses of the Karoo without stressing about falling the Tenere in its chops (coz that's the way we roll). Turns out it was the right decision as 70% of the bikes never left the campsite on Sat morning for fear of the dreaded  sand monster  . I think it might have had something to do with peoples balance being a bit suspect from the afval pot  >:D

Turns out Calvinia is actually quite far from CT and the trip up via the tar road took us 7 hours of which 1hr15mins was spent negotiating the gravel road to the bash site with a trailer in tow. We ended up being the first arrivals (bedsides Tau) so after meeting Mof & Hingsding, we set up camp and fired up the bikes for a quick sundowner ride back toward the tar road to welcome some of the riders.  The carnage that unfolded on the sand tracks into the site was evident by the gouged out tracks in the sand as bike after bike got to know the Karoo bushveld up close and personal. Fortunately there were no injuries and everyone lived to share their epic tales around the fire that evening.

Saturday morning dawned bright and fresh and once the day warmed up a bit Mof took a few willing riders on a tour of his farm. Turns out the quiet reserved okes on the WD forum (there aren't many of those  ) are the guys who can actually ride a big dual bike. Hingsding was the only guy to join us on his GS (all the other bikes were 650's and less) and the farmer from Louriesfontein rode the crap outta that GS on those sand tracks. I could only look on in amazement as there were times that I was in 6 gear flat taps in the dirt and I still couldn't catch him. The man is a wizard on that GS and rides it like a plastic... respect dude. I think the WD's should sponsor him a WR450 and send him with Tau.
The natural assumption was that Hingsding grew up on a farm and had been riding dirt bikes his whole lifes so that night around the fire I questioned him on his biking experience. Turns out he's only had the GS for 4 months and previous to that he cruised around the farm on a Vuka 110. Like I said, RESPECT.

And don't discount Mof on his XR650R. With his bos baaitjie and fellies he set a cracking pace  :thumleft:

We also had the privilege of having our esteemed Dakar wannabe join us on his tricked out WR450 Dakar replica. What a beautiful piece of bike porn *drool*. I could watch okes like John ride a bike all day long. He just makes everything look effortless yet he is absolutely pissing off on that bike. It's a sight to behold. Eendag as ek groot is wil ek ook 'n bike so kan ry.

You'll be hard pressed to find a better place to ride an offroad bike. There are miles & miles of tracks heading in every direction, from wide open stretches of open gravel to sandy riverbeds with boulder crossings. By lunch time we'd had enough riding and settled down to a lazy afternoon with a few cold ones.

Sat night we were once again treated to outstanding Karoo hospitality with two skaapies on a spit. Man alive, we chowed ourselves stukkend. Fortunately we had plenty of alcohol to wash down the fat.

Thanks again to Mof (and his family), Hingsding and Tau for an outstanding weekend in a setting that can only be described as sublime  :thumleft:. We had a great time with our fellow WD's and can only hope that this becomes an annual event on the WD calendar.

Pote tentloos ......drank.

Hingsding jy ry daai GS soos 'n 125 ek sidder as ek dink aan daai rimme.

JC vat sy XR vir 'n drive-thru was

Middelpos se enkel petrol-pomp veroorsaak 'n WD bottelnek
