I was at Kawasaki Fourways today and they said the KLRs were on schedule to be here at the end of June. Btw do these engines need "running in" nowadays? I did not ask them but will I need to take it in for a 1000km oil change?

They do need to be run in properly.
The 1000 km service is mandatory.

Besides the 1000km service you should do the following as soon as you have the bike: Pull the swingarm and rear suspension links apart and grease all the joints and bearings nicely. The steering head bearing also comes with very little grease and is often set too tight resulting in premature wear.

Got an email from them this am. Mine has arrived. Went to check it out this pm and do the necessary paperwork. Will pick it up next week Saturday. Now, where to buy some crash bars, centre stand (would this require any welding to the frame?), a metal bash plate and that cover plate over the rear brake cylinder from?

Fourways had two. Both sold before delivery to the dealer. Price is R48995. Licensing etc add another R1000. I'm happy to pay that to avoid the long queues etc. Damm I'm going to feel too sorry for it to take it offroad anytime soon.....
