KTM 690 leaking radiator
« on: April 13, 2012, 08:50:35 pm »
I bought my bike second hand with about 1000km on the clock and noticed it always has coolent leaking but I can't see from where. Initially I though it might be overflow because the bike was still so new but it hasn't stopped. Has anyone of you experienced any of this?

Ziptie a small bag onto the bottom of the overflow pipe and you'll see if its the overflow.  The overflow bottom has a clearly marked max line.  Don't go above that,

The bolts holding the radiator cover on are notorious for problems caused by vibrating. Best practice is to remove them and zip-tie the cover on.

There's of few more weak spots on the 690 where "vibration rub" can show through and they are worth wrapping some protective tape (or at least checking regularly for signs of wear). First is at the top of the radiator cap, where the pipe turns 90 degrees and the second is under the saddle in the fue line where the 2 quick release connectors are located. Some people wrap insulation tape around the pipes but I've but a some cable wrap for computer cables which just twists around and is pretty thick plastic.
