I've heard that ostriches are pretty delicate birds and particularly susceptible to all sorts diseases whilst still chicks. How does one combat this?

[/quote]The  Birds were brought in by the previous Farmer. The problem is they don't belong in this Area. We are in Sourveld with tall Grass and lots of Ticks.

Sitting here in Durban, in an airconditioned office with a padded chair, phone and laptop makes me feel guilty. What kind of work do you do that we see such a diverse, extreme end of the scale to what I live ?
Your photos albeit a harsh, poor lifestyle compared to my surrounds portray a rich culture and beauty in their own right.   :thumleft:

Thanks Offshore. Water is absolutely precious out here and one learns to appreciate more.

We sank some boreholes but the salinity was about 23,000 ppm (I think sea water is about 35,000 ppm) so only seasonal surface water can be used

Dirtyboy, I'm involved in Oil & Gas exploration (materials & logistics) so we tend to visit some pretty way out places. Bit lousy been away from home for extended periods but it puts bread on the table

;D Speaking of perspective, I did post this one on the 4 x 4 forum saying how fortunate my circumstances were in comparison

Some local contractors were building a school just down the road from us and I took this picture of a guy breaking rocks for aggregate. No personal protective wear and the day time temp was around 40 degrees

Anyway, enough of the sentimental guff
