    F650GS DAKAR TWIN-SPARK

Dear forum members, What kind of engine oil - and how much - should go into the 650 Dakar at oil change? Can I use Castrol Power 1, or even Actevo, or must it be a mineral? For some reason, I can't find the search function, because I'm sure this must have been asked before, more than once...

Vespa rant - not adventure but compare prices & service to adventure bikes

+1 ... until this bike is on the bench and the motor is opened up and the technician actually KNOWS what the issue is at hand, all of the above is simply intellectual masturbation. Best to quote for a worst-case scenario if you're quoting blind.

AFAIK, Tritalia's head technician is Vespa trained (Piaggio Italy), so perhaps worth asking them.

Try doing that with the engine in the frame.  :pot: Yes, it is a lot of money & +1 on the "lifestyle" comment above - that is the price you pay for wanting to ride what is arguably one of the coolest scoots around. Perhaps they can give you a more accurate quote once the bike is on their...

I can't answer that - you will need to compare part numbers on the Scotts website with whatever your supplier wants to sell you.

Which steering damper are you buying? Make sure that whatever you get, it is what Scotts call a SUB-mount (Stabiliser Under Bar), i.e. mounted below the handlebars, not on top ... you want the pin to be as short as possible for the least amount of flex. That is what they tell me ...

Thank you juergen, that's quite clear and self-explanatory. I appreciate your trouble. :thumleft:

I am not arguing with you or questioning the effectiveness of the modifications you describe in changing your ride experience, I just can't get my brain around how the stiffness of a spring, which as I understand things,  is a direct function of the temper of the steel that is used, can be...

Re steering damper: I love mine, and have grown so accustomed to riding with it, that I would never want to ride without it. Has anybody ever tried riding in the turbulent air behind a big vehicle at 100 km/hr+ ... or in a bliksemse strong wind? That steering damper has been the answer to a...

The worn neck bearings have a similar effect to a steering damper - to a point. Tyres seem to be one of the biggest influencing factors. When my bike was new and it still had its factory tyres on, the thing was solid as a rock. That all changed when I fitted my first set of TKC80s.

I agree: when I take left hand off the grip and when I ride with a pillion it is also less prone to happening. it is also a lot better when I : - remove my mirrors - pump front tyre to 2.5 Bar and rear 3.5 - increase pre-load on rear shock Knobbly tyres will make it much worse - for me its...
