    1998 BMW R1100GS - R39k Neg.

She truly is. She has carried me faithfully and reliably across South Africa more than once over the years.

    1998 BMW R1100GS - R39k Neg.

It's with a heavy heart, that I put my machine up for sale. It's that time, and I need to get a car - so the bike has to go (for now). I have a 1998 R1100GS with 94000km on the clock, located in Pietermaritzburg, KZN. The price is R39k negotiable. She doesn't have any extras, but does have...

Oilhead Mechanic needed in the Pietermaritzburg/KZN area please (Found one)

So, after popping open the Motronic, this is what was found: https://i.imgur.com/mqIRZH7.jpg Does anyone have a circuit diagram? Maybe one can repair this.

Oilhead Mechanic needed in the Pietermaritzburg/KZN area please (Found one)

That's what everyone (including myself) is saying. I don't want to say it's impossible.... but basically - the one thing that wasn't supposed to fail, failed.

Oilhead Mechanic needed in the Pietermaritzburg/KZN area please (Found one)

I had someone else pick it up from Supertech - as they couldn't figure out what was wrong. It turns out, definitely, my Motronic unit has gone bad. He put in a donor part and the bike has spark again. So, now the hunt for an R1100 motronic begins.

Oilhead Mechanic needed in the Pietermaritzburg/KZN area please (Found one)

I had Supertech in Pinetown come and collect my bike. ALthough, there are several yellow flags going up. Apparently the starter solenoid needs to be replaced? And that the motronic is giving an error regarding it? I find this very suspicious, considering that the bike was cranking 100% before...

WHERE TO HIDE SPARE KEY AND HOW ?

I have two sets of keys. The main keys just for the bike. And one that sits on my belt wherever I go - all of my spare keys are on here. So no matter where I go, I'm essentially carrying two keys for my vehicles with me. I learned the hard way one day after misplacing my bike key. Ever since...

Oilhead Mechanic needed in the Pietermaritzburg/KZN area please (Found one)

Hi All As per this thread: https://wilddog.net.za/forum/index.php?topic=216546.0 I'm stumped on what to do next. I know Welsh has an offer to lend me a spare HSE unit - but at this stage, I'd rather just take the bike in to someone and leave it there till it's fixed and pay them for their...

No spark, no fuel (and the Hall Sensor is probably okay). Please help!

Actually... no, not really. A lot of my problems were merely misunderstandings about Oilheads in general. In fact, this is the only actual problem that I've encountered on the bike.

No spark, no fuel (and the Hall Sensor is probably okay). Please help!

I just checked the wiring from the other side directly to the motronic unit - and I have full continuity the whole way. But still no spark. At this stage... I'm stumped. The only thing left for me to do is to start swapping parts. Anyone in the PMB area willing to pick up my bike and work...

No spark, no fuel (and the Hall Sensor is probably okay). Please help!

A small update: I tested the hall sensor in the bike - according to a test LED, the sensors are doing exactly what they're supposed to - and the timing is 100%. This is telling me the problem is on the OTHER side of the plug. Of course, with the engine not starting, the motronic gives a...

No spark, no fuel (and the Hall Sensor is probably okay). Please help!

That was actually one of the first things I did - I swapped the motronic relay, but there's no difference. I'd love to test with a different HES, but I don't know where I could borrow one from  :-[

No spark, no fuel (and the Hall Sensor is probably okay). Please help!

So - I've been living a bit of a nightmare this past week. My 1998 R1100GS died and left me stranded - the symptoms: no spark, and no fuel when cranking the engine. The fuel pump turns on when I turn on the ignition, but doesn't pump when cranking. I removed the Hall Sensor plate and found...

Really rough idle/misfiring (AKA - Check your F***ING throttle cables!)

... perhaps. It's rudimentary heat-shielding for the fuel pipe running past the engine.
