    Speedo Correction Disks

The speedo pickup is part of the ABS sensor, to correct the speedo error the ABS ring is slotted with a different number of slots. To ensure that it doesnt play havoc with the traction control, both the front wheel ABS ring and the rear wheel ABS ring are replaced.

    KTM 1190 Adv problem collection

Fuel Filter - Again I just can seem to win with the fuel filter issues. As documented in April last year, my bike died in Bulawayo when we did a circumnavigation of Zimbabwe It died a few times, but fortunately it cleared itself. When I took it to the dealer they changed the fuel pump and...

New Project - Rebuild the Kawasaki Z1000J

What a relief I found a spare motor, that is bog standard, the bike t-boned one of our notorious mini-bus taxis and the odometer only has 21000km on. The cost of this motor is less than the cost of resleeving the barrels (installing new barrel liners) and re-drilling and threading the cam...

New Project - Rebuild the Kawasaki Z1000J

Got some work done on the zed today, but it has now also created more questions than answers. I could never have imagined what I would find until I opened the motor The previous owner has forced 1/4" (BSW) witworth screws (bolts) into some of the 6mm tappet cover screws, then not one of the cam...

    1190 Fuel Tank Range Experiment

The bike just died, I refilled it, turned on the ignition, waited a couple of seconds for the fuel pump to fill up and presurise, and it started 1st time without missing a beat As a comparison, with the same riding technique - my 990SMT has a 19Ltr tank and I normally get 300km on a tank refill...

    Wanted - Back brake disc

The rear disk rotor on my 990SMT also had a bit of a rattle - seemed loose on its screws. I priced a replacement disk rotor from the dealers and nearly ended up in ICU I contacted TK-Imports and got a Galfer slotted wavey rear disk for nearly half the price of KTM disk, and Galfer is a well...

    1190 Fuel Tank Range Experiment

This week I decided I would ride the tank dry to see what the actual fuel range is, as I am tired of getting to the garage and only putting in 18Ltr of a 23ltr tank when the reserve light comes on. But I wanted this to be done at realistic speeds and not "fuel saving" speed. My daily commute...

New Project - Rebuild the Kawasaki Z1000J

My 3rd garage was finally finished in the middle of november, not wanting to start anything major before our summer holidays and shutdown I just stocked it up in preparation for the Z1000J rebuild, then today I got a hair up my @r$e and decided that now was as good a time as any SO I Wheeled...

    KM/L and range

I'm averaging 17km/L on my 1190 - now with 9000km on clock BUT,   my 990SMT currently does 16.5km/L - Im not familiar with the difference between the 990SMT and 990Adv motors other than the SMT has more power So there isnt really a significant difference in fuel consumption And, , , , the 990SMT...
