Thats pretty much what I did - screen went hazy, but cleared up nicely. Good luck! Reading Road Hog's reply - I agree, put brasso on sandpaper and keep using same piece of sandpaper.

Not sure if it'll work on a bike screen, but brasso, spit and a 2000 grit sandpaper (and some elbow grease) worked wonders on a badly scratched garmin 60csx gps screen.
