Tubeless tyre to use with tube???

You can, but IMO, it's always best to stick to TT tires on a TT wheel, as fixing a puncture on the side of road with a TL tire can be a major headache, compared to the much "looser" fitting TT tires. For example, I installed TL tires on my two KLR650s for our Arctic Circle ride, and had to...

Picked up a "new" (to me) 2001 Tiger 955i with 11K miles on her

Thanks, the best part is that I picked her up for $3800, and that came with the original manual and tools, a good German alarm, a factory service manual, the factory gel seat (in addition to the stock seat), and the factory performance slip-on exhaust (in addition to the stock slip-on). I...

Picked up a "new" (to me) 2001 Tiger 955i with 11K miles on her

Man, I'm seriously liking this old cow! 50 MPG (US gallons) and comfy as hell, and the panniers work great. Perfect for my long ADV (non technical, highway and dirt road) rides. I think I'll use her to finish our aborted Arctic Circle ride, where we had to turn around so close to our goal due to...

Bringing down the revs a bit??? Any ideas?

I run a 17T with a 45T rear sprocket - great for long distance high speed rides, and when cruising at lower speeds - say 100 km/h, I'm getting into the 30km/l numbers. The 17T needs a little grinding of the sprocket cover, to fit. No biggie. My son runs a 17T with the stock 43T rear sprocket...

New (to me) Tiger 955i with only 11K miles

Picked up a 2001 Tiger a few weeks ago, with less than 12K miles (20K kms) on her. Still looks spotless. Nice bike. It has the K&N filter (previous owner) and the Triumph aftermarket pipe fitted, and has a bit of a flat-spot at light cruise and maybe 70-80 km/h. I think I'm going to fit a stock...

    DIY 12V Sockets

Use a 12 or 15A fuse for that circuit.....you want to use a fuse of about double the max amp load expected. Otherwise, you should be fine. Instead of worrying about the switch and LED, you could use a relay to take a SWITCHED circuit signal from your taillight or any of the circuits that stays...

    Battery problem or bigger issue?

Replace the R/R unit with a heavier-duty older ZX600 unit, and it will not overcharge any longer. The electrical connector is a identical between the two units , but you'd need to drill one hole out of the 2 mounting holes that bolt the unit to the plastic mudguard, as the spacing is different...

    Tool tube placement

My tube is made of Schedule 40 pipe. It's not going to break! My son went down on his KLR with the same tube at about 90 km/h. Slight rash on the end cap, and the tube rotated a little by the D-clamps on the frame. Kicked it back into position and on we went. I like the low and forward position...

    Siberia 2013

Hehe, Mike....I'll nudge you every now now and then to make you keep thinking about it. But I wouldn't recommend the 1200 for this trip.....maybe a good, light 250-450 or XChallenge 650 or similar. Anything heavier will be VERY tough work. I may pick up a 250 Kawa DS or similar...cheap and...

    Siberia 2013

Have been talking about doing the BAM road (or a least the Western part of it), through Siberia in summer of 2013, for quite some time. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baikal_Amur_Mainline Here is a link to a great RR from a guy over on ADVRIDER...

Sprocket change on the klr 650.

A few reasons: 1. I already had the 45T rear fitted 2. I prefer to use an odd-numbered front sprocket for reduced side wear, and the 17T is a prime number, so even better. 3. The gearing is slightly taller. The 17T needs the sprocket cover to be trimmed, but otherwise, the alternator wiring is...

Sprocket change on the klr 650.

My KLR loved the 17T/45T combo I used on a recent 6800km jaunt across the NE part of Canada and back with my son. His KLR was running a 17T/43T combo and we averaged about the same fuel consumption. We ran dirt roads (about 1000km) and the rest 2-lane highway (90-110km/h) and about 1600km of...
