It's definitely the vacuum then.  It looked to me though that it is connected at the carb -> pipe goes up to top of carb and is connected on to the top of the carb at "seat" side.  Does that sound correct ? I am wanting to use the bike this weekend,  can you anticipate any issue with riding it...

    The DR650 thread

Thanks Lecap.  I did a bit of fiddling myself last night and am now not sure the issue is with the fuel tap, I pulled off the vacuum pipe from the tap side and can't feel any suction there when the bike is running but I am not sure how strong the vacuum is normally to open the diaphragm ?

Fuel Valve issue.  My Dr650 has stood for quite a while.  After struggling to start it I took it a mechanic and they have got it running but only if the fuel valve stays in the "Pri" position !  If I switch it to "On" the bike dies after a short while (about 1min if just idling..).  I guess...

ThomTom Please tell me more about the logistics of the Shosholoza Meyl, what does it cost to take the bike on board.  I have read that it can be taken on board as luggage or at minimal cost and is therefore much cheaper than taking a car on board but I haven't been able to find out any reliable...

Hi Guys, I got a question re the gear lever and a small oil leak I have around the area were the shaft from the shaft enters the gearbox.  Not long after I got the bike I dropped it when I didn't put the sidestand out properly and it bent the lever in against the engine and bent the hinged...

    There is a way through

For sure it is rideable, I just didn't want to give it a bash on my own and with no one at home knowing exactly were I was, being a flyweight the bike weighs 3x me and i had visions of trying to lift it against flowing water, so decided to live to fight another day.  On a mtb my technical skills...

    There is a way through

So in theory there is a way through BUT 1) it goes through a sensitive area and I don't believe should be abused as a regular weekend playground.  I don't know whether my thinking is correct but I feel if it is not traversed my big groups and is ridden slowly (ie under 40km/) it will be ok and...

    There is a way through

Back at the causeway I again stopped for a chill and to take a few more pictures.  In pic14 you can kind of see were the hole is by the ripples in the water roughly halfway across If you were exiting the causeway in an easterly direction you would possibly see the sign in the last pic

    There is a way through

So caution won & I decided it would be better to live and fight another day.  I parked off in the sun for a while and dried out while enjoying the peace and solitude, you would never guess Lanseria airport is less thena 2km as the crow flies away or Fourways less than 10km  :thumleft: Once dry...
