Best options for lowering my KLR650

I would agree, the KLR has decent ground clearance as is. You will appreciate this when you  get off road. I'd have the seat shaved. Should also be a bit cheaper, but I could be wrong

    KLR650 gear lever

Pardon the question, but what exactly is the IMS lever? Otherwise, I'll just make mine into what I want, customise it!

    KLR650 gear lever

I don't really want the same lever again, I dislike the one that's on there at the moment. Are the splines generic on these bikes, or are they make specific?

    KLR650 gear lever

Thanks, I'll have a look at the lever again, I didn't see any damage when I took it off to adjust it, but I could have missed something! I have a 2013 model. Lecap, where is a good place to buy a replacement lever?

    KLR650 gear lever

Hi guys, I recently noticed that my klr gear lever has quite a lot of lateral play on it. I tightened the bolt securing the lever, but the play is still there. It gets annoying when trying to shift gears with the edge of my boot. I'm scared of damaging the spline cut into the shaft if the...

How to remove a stripped bolt

I could be mistaken, but I think it's 4.8 mm, either way, I ended up destroying the thread eventually. I was rushed and had to get it out, so I did what I could with what I had available.

How to remove a stripped bolt

Well, like I said, it wasn't me who over tightened the bolt. I am usually very careful with things like that. @lecap, how would you have removed it without damaging the thread on the bracket?

How to remove a stripped bolt

I thought of using the easy out, but because the thread itself was stripped, the only way out was to drill it. In the end it worked out all right, though

Solo ride from Pretoria to Cape Town

Hi all, I'm heading down to Cape Town for December holidays and in stead of sitting in a car, I thought I might make a trip out of it and head down on the bike. Does anybody have any suggestions on routes to take, or things that are a must see on the way down? I am planning on making the...

How to remove a stripped bolt

Hi all. I thought I'd post this as a general help to everyone. It's pretty logical, but it took some effort doing and I couldn't find any detailed help anywhere. I wanted to take seat off my KLR650, but after I removed the covers, I discovered that some genius had previously stripped the...

Can the cameras read a KLR's number plate?

@TVB, thanks for the info! It's quite ridiculous how much effort is spent to take our money! I'm going to go through a gantry to see if they bill me all the same, just for curiosity sake! PS: The bastards comment was aimed at the people in at the people in charge of SANRAL, not at you ;)...

Can the cameras read a KLR's number plate?

I'm going to ride on the highway when bike is registered to my name, see if I get any bills. My number plate seems to be mounted loosely, so if might flap a bit in the wind, I'll see what happens. Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk

Can the cameras read a KLR's number plate?

@Flatout: Could the speeding fine be possible because they have less photos to go through? I'm wondering if they have a way of going through the thousands of cars' and bikes' photos that get taken by these gantries. @Kneeslider: My KLR has exactly the same thing. I am just wondering if they can...

Can the cameras read a KLR's number plate?

Hi everyone! I got a KLR 650 (My first bike!!!) this week. I was looking at the position of the number plate and it looks like rear fender comes down quite far over the number plate. It got me thinking. Does anyone know if the cameras can pick up the number plate? I looked at the plate from a...

New to the forum and to biking!

Hi everyone! I finished my degree at the end of last year and started working. Since I now have my own income, I decided that it's FINALLY time to buy myself a bike! Ever since I watched (and read) Long Way Round, I've been dreaming about buying a bike and going touring. Reading the book, I...
